We confess that the Holy Spirit works through the Word of God in devotions to create, strengthen, and sustain faith 3,300. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ 4. Without the Word, devotions cannot fulfill their God-ordained purpose 5.
We confess that devotions include daily hearing, meditation, and application of the Word 6,200. The believer is called to treasure God's Word in the heart and let it guide all thoughts, words, and deeds 7. Meditation on Scripture nourishes the soul and produces spiritual growth 8.
We confess that the Word rightly divides Law and Gospel in devotions, exposing sin and comforting the repentant with forgiveness in Christ 9,301. Devotions must not distort this distinction but faithfully present both to lead to repentance and faith 10.
We confess that the Word in devotions always directs the believer to Christ crucified and risen 11,300. Christ is the center and fulfillment of all Scripture, and devotions that do not proclaim Him do not nourish saving faith 12.
We confess that devotions combine the hearing of the Word with prayer, praise, and confession, fostering a living conversation with God 13,302. Prayer expresses faith's trust and dependence on God's grace 14.

We confess that devotions place the Christian daily under the hearing of God's Word, through which the Holy Spirit exposes sin and renews faith 1,2,300. The Christian life is lived in continual repentance, not as a one-time event but as an ongoing return to God through His Word 3.
We confess that the Law proclaimed in devotions reveals sin, convicts the conscience, and calls the believer to repentance 4,301. Through the Word, God exposes both outward transgressions and the hidden sins of the heart 5. Devotions that neglect the Law fail to address the daily need for repentance 6.
We confess that the Gospel proclaimed in devotions freely grants forgiveness and renews the repentant believer 7,8,300. Through the promise of Christ crucified and risen, the conscience is comforted and faith restored 9. Renewal flows not from human effort but from God's gracious absolution 10.
We confess that devotions sustain the daily dying and rising of the baptized life, as the old Adam is drowned through repentance and the new man daily emerges through faith 11,302. This daily rhythm of repentance and renewal is rooted in Baptism and sustained by the Word 12.
We confess that devotions form a posture of humility, confession, and reliance on Christ alone 13,301. As the Word confronts pride and self-righteousness, believers are continually redirected away from self-justification and toward Christ's righteousness 14.
We confess that ongoing repentance and renewal through devotions transform the mind and strengthen faithful living in vocation 15,200. The forgiven sinner is renewed for service to neighbor, not to earn salvation, but as the fruit of faith 16.
We confess that devotions rightly ordered in Law and Gospel guard against despair on the one hand and self-righteousness on the other 17,301. The Law humbles without crushing, and the Gospel comforts without excusing sin 18.

We confess that devotions arise from faith and are exercised within the Christian's God-given vocations, not apart from daily life 1,2,300. Devotions are not an escape from vocation but prepare the Christian to live faithfully within family, church, workplace, and society 3.
We confess that devotions are primarily receptive acts, in which the Christian receives God's Word and promises, rather than self-generated spiritual achievements 4,300. From this reception flows renewed strength to serve the neighbor in love 5.
We confess that devotions equip the Christian to serve the neighbor with patience, wisdom, and mercy, according to each vocation 6,7. Through the Word, God shapes the heart to see the neighbor not as an obstacle but as the object of Christian love 8.
We confess that devotions guard Christian vocation from being distorted by selfish ambition, pride, or despair 9,301. By returning daily to God's Word, the Christian is freed from seeking worth or righteousness in works and is instead anchored in Christ 10.
devotions strengthen love for class=GramE>neighbor without confusing works of love with justification 11,301. Love flows from faith and forgiveness already given, not from anxiety over earning God's favor 12.
We confess that devotions form Christian speech and conduct, teaching restraint, gentleness, truthfulness, and compassion in dealings with others 13,14. The Word received privately bears fruit publicly in faithful witness and service 15.
We confess that devotions affirm the value of hidden and ordinary works of love, which God esteems even when the world does not 16,302. Through devotion to the Word, Christians are strengthened to serve faithfully without recognition or reward 17.

We confess that Christian devotions are ordered and shaped by God's Word, not by personal preference or spiritual novelty 1,2,300. Prayer, singing, and the use of the Catechism are not arbitrary practices but flow from Scripture's teaching concerning how the faithful respond to God's gracious speaking 3.
We confess that prayer is the primary response of faith to God's Word, grounded in His command and promise to hear His people 4,5. In prayer, the Christian calls upon God in repentance, thanksgiving, and petition, trusting solely in Christ 6,301.
We confess that singing is a theological and confessional act, by which the Word of Christ dwells richly among the faithful 7,8. Through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, Christians confess the faith, teach one another, and proclaim Christ to themselves and to others 9.
We confess that the Catechism serves as a faithful summary of Scripture, guiding prayer, instruction, and meditation in daily devotions 10,302. The Catechism orders the Christian life around the Ten Commandments, the Creed, the Lord's Prayer, Baptism, Confession and Absolution, and the Sacrament of the Altar 11.
We confess that the Catechism forms the content of Christian prayer and singing, ensuring that devotion remains grounded in sound doctrine 12,13. The Psalms, hymns, and catechetical texts teach Christians how to pray rightly and confess Christ clearly 14.
We confess that prayer, singing, and catechesis belong both to personal devotion and to the life of the Church 15,16. These practices unite Christians across time and place in one confession of faith, even when exercised privately 17,300.
We confess that rightly ordered devotions preserve the distinction of Law and Gospel, as taught in the Catechism and sung in the Church's hymns 18,301. Prayer flows from forgiveness received, not from fear or coercion 19.

We confess that justification is the forgiveness of sins and righteousness before God, given solely by grace for Christ's sake and received through faith alone, apart from works 1,2,300. No human activity, including devotional practices, contributes to justification before God 3.
We confess that devotions do not merit forgiveness, life, or salvation, nor do they improve one's standing before God 4,5. Any attempt to treat devotions as meritorious obscures the Gospel and replaces Christ's work with human effort 6,301.
We confess that devotions arise from faith already justified, as fruits of faith and expressions of thanksgiving for salvation received 7,8. The Christian engages in prayer, meditation, and worship not to become righteous, but because he is righteous in Christ 9.
We confess that devotions serve as aids for the Christian life, strengthening faith by repeatedly placing the believer under God's Word and promises 10,11. Devotions direct the Christian back to the Means of Grace and support daily repentance and renewal 12.
We confess that devotions must not be confused with the Means of Grace, which alone deliver forgiveness and salvation 13,14,300. While devotions use the Word of God, they do not function as self-generated means of obtaining grace apart from Christ's institution 15.
We confess that rightly understood devotions preserve the distinction of Law and Gospel, condemning self-righteousness and comforting the conscience with Christ's completed work 16,301. Devotions grounded in the Gospel free the Christian from anxiety about spiritual performance 17.
We confess that devotions serve sanctification, shaping the Christian's life of love toward God and neighbor 18,19. They support the Christian in his vocations without becoming a new law or burden of conscience 20,302.

We confess that God gives His gifts freely by grace, for the forgiveness of sins, the strengthening of faith, and the sustaining of Christian life 1,2,300. These gifts are not earned, but received through faith in Christ alone 3.
We confess that God's chief gifts are delivered through the Means of Grace, namely the Word, Baptism, the Lord's Supper, and Absolution 4,5,6,300. Through these gifts, God Himself acts to forgive, restore, and preserve His people in faith 7.
We confess that devotions encourage Christians to return daily to God's gifts, especially the Word of God and prayer grounded in His promises 8,9. Devotions help order the Christian life around what God gives, rather than around human effort or spiritual achievement 10.
We confess that devotions train Christians to live as receivers of God's gifts, cultivating humility, repentance, and trust in God's mercy 11,12. Proper devotions resist self-reliance and direct the believer away from self-generated spirituality toward Christ's external Word 13,301.
We confess that devotions encourage daily repentance, as the baptized return again and again to the forgiveness already given in Baptism 14,15,300. Through confession and prayer, the Christian lives from God's ongoing gift of absolution 16.
We confess that devotions do not replace corporate worship, but foster desire for the Lord's Supper and the gathered Church 17,18. By meditating on God's Word, devotions prepare Christians to receive Christ's body and blood with faith and thanksgiving 19.
We confess that daily use of God's gifts produces thanksgiving, which flows outward into faithful service in one's vocations 20,21. Devotions orient the Christian life toward gratitude rather than obligation, freedom rather than compulsion 22,302.

We confess that the theology of the cross teaches that God reveals Himself under suffering, weakness, and humility, not through human glory or spiritual achievement 1,2,300. God is known rightly only where He has promised to be known: in the crucified Christ and His Word 3.
We confess that Christian devotions are governed by the theology of the cross, rejecting the theology of glory that seeks God in success, power, emotional experience, or visible progress 4,5. Proper devotions do not measure faith by feelings or outcomes, but cling to God's promises given in weakness 6,301.
We confess that devotions formed by the cross teach Christians to expect ongoing repentance, temptation, and suffering in this life 7,8. Daily prayer and meditation on Scripture expose sin, weakness, and need, driving the believer away from self-trust and toward Christ alone 9.
We confess that the central content of Christian devotion is Christ crucified for sinners, not moral improvement or spiritual technique 10,11. In devotions, the Christian does not ascend to God but receives Christ who descends in mercy through His Word 12.
devotions shaped by the theology of the class=GramE>cross train Christians to live by faith rather than sight 13. God's work is often hidden under ordinary words, weakness, and suffering, yet faith clings to His promise even when appearances contradict it 14,302.
We confess that devotions teach Christians to embrace weakness, knowing that God works His strength precisely there 15,16. Prayer in distress, confession of sin, and meditation on the cross shape humility and reliance on God's grace rather than spiritual self-confidence 17.
We confess that the theology of the cross protects devotions from becoming works-righteousness, spiritual performance, or self-justification 18,19. Devotions remain gifts received, not achievements displayed, and they continually return the believer to forgiveness won by Christ alone 20,300.

We confess that the Church is the assembly in which Christ gives His gifts, nurturing faith through the preaching of the Word and the administration of the Sacraments 1,2,300. From this public ministry flows encouragement for private and household devotions, which remain rooted in the Church's life and confession 3.
We confess that Christian devotions arise from and are sustained by the Church's public means of grace, not independent of them 4,5. The Word heard in the Divine Service shapes prayer, meditation, and catechesis throughout the week 6,301.
We confess that the Church supports devotions by teaching the faith clearly and faithfully, especially through catechesis 7,8. The Catechism, hymns, lectionary readings, and liturgical texts provide reliable and Christ-centered material for daily devotion 9,302.
devotions are never purely class=GramE>individualistic, but are practiced within the communion of saints 10,11. Even when undertaken privately, devotions remain connected to the Church's shared confession, prayers, and faith 12.

We confess that devotions support the daily rhythm of repentance and faith, exposing sin through the Law and comforting consciences through the Gospel 7,8. They return the Christian again and again to Christ's forgiveness and promises 9.
We confess that devotions must rightly distinguish Law and Gospel, lest they burden consciences or obscure Christ 10,11,300. Proper devotions convict of sin without despair and console without moralism 12.
We confess that devotions are practiced in evangelical freedom, not under coercion or command as law 13,14. Christians are free to use or not use particular devotional forms without fear or judgment 15,301.
We confess that devotions serve the Christian's callings, strengthening faith for service to neighbor rather than withdrawal from daily life 16,17. Devotions do not replace vocation but sustain it ,18,302.
