Lectionary Festivals Help
The "Lectionary Festivals" web page consists of four sections, each of which contains a table: (1) a table at the top that shows the Bible readings for the selected lectionary festival, (2) a table that contains the summary for the selected lectionary festival from the LCMS web site (), (3) a table containing the recommended hymns for the selected lectionary festival and (4) a table at the bottom that shows the archived services/sermons for the selected lectionary festival.
Before any information is displayed in any of the four tables, the lectionary series must be selected from the dropdown list control above the first table followed by the selection of the lectionary festival from the second dropdown list control.
Selecting the lectionary series will populate the dropdown list for the lectionary festivals (note that the festivals for the one-year lectionary series are different than the festivals for lectionary series A, B and C). Selecting a festival from the second dropdown list control will then populate the four tables. If the Lectionary Festivals web page is being accessed from another web page than the home page, the lectionary series and festival will be specified in the URL and the page will display with the specified lectionary series and festival.
The first table contains the readings for the selected lectionary festival. Typically, this table will contain four rows, one each for the first reading, the Psalm (often sung rather than read), the Epistle and the Gospel. On special occasions there may be a fifth reading.
The first table can be used to delve deeper into the various readings. This table contains the same columns as used elsewhere (e.g., in the Bible Outline web page), although the order of the columns in this table is slightly different than elsewhere. Selecting one of the images from this table will perform a query using the web site for that column and display the results in a new web page. The columns for this table are:
Reading - the readings for the selected lectionary festival. Typically, there will be four readings (rist reading, Psalm, Epistle and Gospel) although, on special occasions there may be a fifth reading specified.

For the one-year lectionary there are Gospel notes () available as well as sermon notes from Martin Luther (
). When available, these will appear as images after the Summary header as shown below.
The second table is purely informational and contains the date for the festival (within the current church calendar year) as well as the title and summary from the LCMS web site for the selected festival.
The third table contains the recommended hymns (from the LCMS web site) for the selected lectionary festival.
The columns within this table correspond to the columns used elsewhere when hymns are displayed:
Bible passage - Bible passage(s) for the hymn as specified in the Lutheran Service Book (LSB). If the hymn is not included in the Lutheran Service Book, then the Bible passage from the Lutheran Hymnal (TLH) is used.
LSB# - hymn number from the Lutheran Service Book

The fourth (final) table contains archived services and/or sermons for the selected lectionary festival. Only those services/sermons for the church specified on the home page are shown. If no archived services or sermons are found for the selected lectionary festival, then the table will not be shown. Likewise, if the Lectionary Festivals web page is accessed from the Bible Outline web page or if no home church was specified on the home page, then this table is not shown (even if there are archived services/sermons for the specified home church) since the contextual information about the home church is not conveyed from the Bible Outline web page to this web page.
The final table, when the information for Immanuel Lutheran in Alexandria, VA, is used contains the following. Clicking the image in the URL column will display the web page/text for the various Maundy Thursday sermons.
Above this final table is an image or, in some cases, two images for accessing the LCMS sermons web page for the Gospel reading from the first table. This image(s) is displayed even for cases where the bottom table is not displayed. Clicking this image can be used to access the LCMS sermons web site for the Gospel reading.
Sometimes the Gospel reading will contain " or " indicating that there are two possible Gospel readings for the lectionary festival. In this case, two images for the LCMS sermons web site will appear. The first one can be clicked to perform a query of the LCMS sermons web site for the first of the two possible readings (i.e., before the " or "). Selecting the second image will perform a query using the second Gospel reading (i.e., after the " or ").
In other cases the Gospel reading will include parentheses with a range of verses identified within the parentheses. In this case the verses inside the parentheses may or may not be included in the Gospel reading. This results in two possible Bible readings for the Gospel, one without the verses inside the parentheses and the other including the verses inside the parentheses. As before, for this case, two images that perform a query of the LCMS sermons web site will appear, the first for queryinf without the verses inside the parentheses and the second for querying including the verses inside the parentheses.
